The most common targets
High Net Worth Individuals
are automatically at a disadvantage since they are being targeted for their wealth by all kinds of fraudsters. Tax ID Theft is just another risk those individuals need to be aware of
Children
minors and students are perfect targets, since most of them do not usually have to file a tax return, making them an ideal victim for Tax Identity thieves
Remember that none of the major credit protection agencies protect your IRS tax identity. Locking or unlocking your credit history has no effect on your vulnerability as a potential victim of the tax identity fraud.
Only LifeLock will provide you with protection against Tax ID theft and reimburse for the costs of tax identity restoration in the unlikely event your defenses get breached
IP Pin for eligible taxpayers
The IP PIN is a 6-digit number assigned to eligible taxpayers to help prevent the misuse of their Social Security number on fraudulent federal income tax returns. An IP PIN helps the IRS verify a taxpayer’s identity and accept their electronic or paper tax return. When you have an IP PIN, it prevents someone else from filing a tax return with your SSN.
IRS Tax Account Monitoring
Each taxpayer has an electronic account with the IRS for each year. IRS allows taxpayers and their representatives to monitor their tax accounts through so called transcripts. The transcripts show most of the taxpayer’s activity for each calendar year, regardless of whether the return has been filed for that period.
EFTPS payment system
This tremendously helpful US Treasury tool has not yet entered the personal tax mainstream. EFTPS represents one of the most user-friendly and secure ways for individual taxpayers to interact with the federal government, i.e. IRS, when it comes to making, reviewing, modifying and even canceling tax liability payments.
